After planting trees and revitalization at the surrounding area of Pura Pucak Bukit Sinunggal in Buleleng last week, Depasar community of plantation (PPT) repeated similar activity around Pura Er Jeruk Sukawati in Gianyar. Planted trees were a number of rare species, and those used for religious ceremonies such as Ngasari, Cendana, Rijasa, Sudamala, and Teleng. The activity was symbolically started by the chairwoman of the group Mrs. Bintang Puspayoga, wife of the Mayor of Denpasar, which were then followed by other members.

A special ceremony was held prior to the activity. In addition to trees, the group has also handed over a couple of rubbish deposit, which were accepted by the religious leader of the Pura. Mrs. Bintang Puspayoga explained that planting trees in surrounding area of a number of Pura - in and outside Bali - is a routine activity of the organization, as an expression of their will to maintain environment around important religious sites, as well as ensuring sustainable availability of rare species especially those required for religious rituals. Similar activity has been also held in Pura Alas Purwo, Pura Blambangan Banyuwangi, and Pura Semeru in East Java as well as Pura Gunung Salak in West Java.

She added that in addition to sustainability of rare species which getting more difficult to find, the such activity also allows people to easily find those required for religious rituals. She finally suggested everybody to care for their environment. “Let’s start with simple things around us. It is actually an implementation of the Tri Hita Karana, harmonious relationship between human being and the environment”, she said.
