Many fishermen along the south coast of Bali prefer to stay at home due to weather forecast informing potential soaring tidal wave up to 3 meters height. “As we read the information on the newspaper we are not feel comfortable to go out to the sea, regardless there is no sight of the wave at that height along the south coast, especially on Kusamba Beach of Klungkung regency”, Made Dayuh, a fisherman living at Kusamba Beach told Bali Post daily yesterday (June 30th).

Prior to the occasion Head of Data and Information Department at Denpasar branch of national weather agency (BMG) Ir. H. Sutrisno, M.Si. informed that there is a wind cyclone Eddy around the western area of Kalimantan and low pressure on Pacific Ocean on the northern area of Papua. The such condition potentially brings light shower across eastern part of Indonesia. Fishermen, marine transportation operators, and tourists are advised to remain alert to the tendency of increasing wave height.

The warning frightened local fishermen along the south coast of Bali, and prefer not to go out to fish. It is also due to the fact that just a few days back a number of boats have been destroyed by high tidal wave.

“We are afraid of sudden high wave”, said Dayuh. “Most of use cancel our plan to go”, he continued. “Only two-three boats appears on the sea. Only those who have that courage are brave enough to go, and they are not going far away”, he added.

More than those at Kusamba Beach, most of fishing boat Lebih Beach in Gianyar regency remain tied on the beach, changing the beach to look alike an exhibition field full of colorful boats with their own flag and sail. Not only boats, tourists are also avoiding to dip themselves into the water. In contrasts, tourists in Sanur and Kuta seems to ignore the such danger, the beaches are full of swimming tourists regardless a number of tourists has been killed by the wave.

The lifeguards attending a number of posts along both beaches told that Sanur and Kuta have always been full of tourists who seem not to realize the danger.
