Bangli to Build Barong Museum

To preserve Balinese art and culture the government of Bangli Regency realize their promise to build Barong Museum located within the complex of Hindu Education Center Widia Laya, near Pasraman Gurukulla at Kubu village. The construction will start to commence still this year. Financing of 300 millions Rupiah has been allocated out of the regency’s 2008 budget.
The Regent of Bangli I Nengah Arnawa said that the museum reflects the regency’s government in preservation of Balinese traditional art and culture. Barong, and ancient heritage of Balinese tradition adopted throughout Bali was originated from Bangli. Bali knows a number of different barongs including Ket, Landung, Belas-belasan, Bangkung, Macan, and Brutuk, very sacred type of barong which only present in Trunyan.
Another evidence of the regency’s strong commitment on traditional art and culture preservation is annual Bapong Barong Festival. The awaited event intended to preserve Balinese traditional art and culture which potentially serves as a place to showcase traditional heritage as well as to promote Bali tourism.
As other areas in Bali, barongs of Bangli have specific distinction. In the future Barong Museum is expected to show barongs from all areas of Bali in addition to native Bangli barongs.
