Authority tightened security measures at Bali International Airport. After successfully put drug runner bringing hashish into the jail a few months back, custom authority of the airport has just recorded another success. Sigumari Kurasai (41 years old), a Japan citizen was captured upon his arrival at the airport for bringing in 100gr of marijuana. “100gr marijuana in 21 plastic containers were brought in”, explained the Head of Prevention and Investigation Unit of the airport custom office Putu Agus Ariawan.

Entering Bali on SQ946 from Singapore, Sigumari was captured at the international terminal of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday July 5th 2008 at 07:00 PM. To avoid authorities, he pretended to go straight to the luggage claim hall. “We check each and every incoming and outgoing luggages, we even have dog squad standing by”, Putu Agus continued.

When Sigumuri arrived, dog squad checked each incoming luggages as usual to detect prohibited goods hidden inside. The checking dog identified suspicious luggage. “Dog squad smelled presence of drug in one of passengers’ luggages, and when opened a small package of marijuana in plastic container was revealed”, Agus told chronological story.

Another 20 similar packages was then found during further search of the luggage. Additionally about 100 millions Rupiah in foreign currency was also found in the same luggage. “The cash we found was in foreign currency equivalent to approximately 100 millions Rupiah”, Agus said. Interesting scene shown when Sigumuri tried to bribe custom staffs capturing him, which immediately rejected. “He tried to bribe our staffs”, Agus continued.

During interrogation Sigumuri explained that he got the marijuana in Thailand. No information on financial value of the package. The case was then handed over to the police for further investigation.
