Conservation area which also the habitat for protected species of Bali Starling within West Bali National Park is currently in danger. During long dry season risk of fire is significantly increasing. Shrubs and grass in the area easily visible along the road between Denpasar and Gilimanuk as well as between Cegik and Singaraja are drying out. Deposit of drying leaf and strong wind are very sensitive to flame.
Head of West Bali National Park, Bambang Darmadja confirmed that the area is at high risk for fire during dry season, with the highest risk spread along Cegik – Singaraja track especially between Terima gulf to Banyuwedang and around Gilimanuk. The impact affects fauna living in the conservation area especially hens, birds, and other animal nesting in the shrubs. “But risk will not come into actual disaster without involvement of human negligence, which in most cases are careless disposal of consumed cigarettes”, added Bambang.
Realizing that the small negligence can result severe disaster, management of the park has put an effort by placing signs to warn people especially those traveling across the park to be aware when disposing consumed cigarette and any other things which may result even the smallest flame. The management also intensifies patrol especially in the area considered as high risk. Supporting equipments including sprayers and water tanks are also provided.
