In response to complains addressed by local residents of the coastal village of Pemaron in North Bali, the environmental office of Buleleng held an analysis to samples of sea water taken from the area. However, contrary to suspiction of local residents, the analysis proven that there were no such pollution as suspected.

Head of environmental office of Buleleng Ir. Wayan Pasek Suwastika, M.Si., explained that together with office of marine and fishery, Pemaron power plant operated by the state power company PT Indonesia Power, and authorities of local village, his office has monitored water condition in the area, including the most suspected area around fuel landing pier of the power plant. “The result is that we did not find any evidence of pollution as suspected”, said Pasek.

Continuing his briefing, Pasek further explained that the sample was taken from four different spots, including the area around fuel supply pipe of the power plant. The analysis concluded that condition of sea water in the area is classified normal. None of alanyzed indicators exceeded quality standard of marine water quality set by the state ministry of environment.

Complain about suspected pollution was vioced by a resident in Suara Buleleng, a talk show held by local radio station Singaraja FM, which then featured in a column of Bali largest daily, Bali Post, in its column titled  “Bali Terkini”. In the event the resident insisted that disappearing dolphins from the area was possibly caused by polution from fuel leakage at the power plant’s fuel landing pier.
