Occupancy rate of Bali hotels in Denpasar during Lebaran holiday increases by approximately 20%. Head of Denpasar Tourism Office, I Putu Budiasa explained that the procentage is higher than previous year of 2007. “The increase indicates that Bali tourism industry, especially in Denpasar, has recovered after successive terrorist attacks in 2002 and 2005″, said Budiasa.
He furthermore expects that Bali tourism industry is getting even better in the coming years, especially related to a number of international events which are scheduled to take place in Bali. “Among those events is Asian Beach Games (ABG) on October 18th-26th which will involve approximately 10,000 people”.
The such events bring positive impact to growth of tourism industry which the leading force of Bali economy. In addition to competition of sport supremacy, the International watersport event can also be considered as an opportunity for tourism promotion. “Offering extra attraction for visiting tourists, hopefully the event will have its own magnetic power to attract both foreign and domestic tourists.”
With regard to certification of security standard for small hotels in Denpasar, Budiyasa explained that his office is conducting continuous advisory hotel owners to increase their attention to security issues. ” We are now in continuous advisory approact on the importance of implementing security standard in hotels including installation of surveilance cameras (CCTV) and other detector equipments”, said Budiasa.
The such effort is expected to result in more comfort of the hotels’ guests knowing that their security gets better attention. There are 176 small hotels scattered around Denpasar. The District of West Denpasar has the highest number of 72. Other 69 and 35 small hotels are located in The District of South and East Denpasar respectively. “All in total provide 3,912 rooms, 80% of those small hotels have undergone security certification”, explained Budiyasa.
