Indonesian ministry of manpower has elaborated a number of programs in effort to decrease open unemployment which at the moment scores 8.5% down to an expected target of 5.1% by the end of 2009. Indonesian Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Erman Suparno has addressed the issue in his speech when he officially opened Asia-Europe Meeting, Labor and Employment Minister’s Conference (ASEM LEMC-II) in Nusa Dua yesterday, Thursday October 14th.
Theme carried by the meeting attended by at least 37 Asia-Pacific and European countries was “More and Better Jobs-Strengthening Partnership to Take Advantage From Global Labor Market Towards Decent Work.”
The meeting was intended to improve cooperation between the two regions in laborship and to increase economic potential of developing countries. Additionally the meeting was also expected to elaborate workable steps to prevent negative impact of globalization and taking positive advantage over the phenomena.
Erman said that every coutry has to allocate sufficient labor with relevant set of knowledge and skill as well as sufficient quality and qualification to improve production which in turn will lead into adequate economic growth. The cycle will then continue to the fact that better economic growth will bring even more job opportunities whilst eliminating unemployment and poverty. The cycle will continuously move forward in increasing size. “All countries have to work individually and together to eliminate negative impact and gain positive impact of globalization”, expected Erman.
Indonesian have to continuously taking advantage of globalization to improve posperity. Fair globalization on laborship deserves sufficient follow ups. Among the commitments was to decrease unemployement from 8.1% at the beginning of 2008 to 5.1% by the end of 2009. Massive efforts will be geared to improvement of quality and competency of available workforce through three-in-one approach: harmoneous industrial relationship, expansion of off-shore employment opportunities, and strong micro enterprises.
