Indonesian Nature Conservation Institute (BKSDA) under direction of the commander of police’s quick reacting force Made Astra conducted sudden inspection in Monday (October 10th). The target was to to look for protected fauna in custody of local residents without proper paperwork. Inspection in four different spots of Denpasar has resulted in seizure of for protected bird species: a black eagle, a yellow crested cockatoo, red parrot with black head, and golden sparrow.

Some tens of BKSDA officials departed from their office in two cars. The first target was the residence of A.A. Asmara Putra alias Gung Cilik on Jalan Gunung Tangkuban Parahu, Denpasar, where four birds – sea eagle and protected cockatoo – were found. “Those birds were gift from a friend. I did not aware that they are protected species. I have been taking care of them for five years,” said Gung Cilik.

Second target was also located on Jalan Gunung Tangkuban Parahu, UD Rasna Jaya, where two birds – a black eagle and a protected cockatoo – were found. Rasna Jaya said that he caught the black eagle himself when the bird out of the sudden stopped by at his yard. “The cockatoo was a gift from my employee,” he continued. Those two birds were taken away to BKSDA office.

The residence of Wayan Swendra on Jalan By Pass Ngurah Rai, Sanur has been the third target. A red parrot with black head and a golden sparrow were seized. Coincidentally the owner was on travel. At the last target which was Taman Festival of Padang Galak sea and fresh water turtles were found. But those protected animals were not seized. “We have to firstly investigated if the owner has proper paperwork,” sand Mad Astra.

It was explained that those seized animals will then be entrusted at a zoo.
