Dutch Couple Involved in an Accident

Local residents got panic seeing flame soared after a traffic accident at Jalan Raya Sembung, somewhere close to a junction near cemetery of Banjar Karang Jung, Sembung Village, Mengwi. Dutch couple Vlasbom (62 years old) and his wife Vetro Nela Yacoba Vlasbom (55 years old) have almost got burnt in their car after the incident. Isuzu Panther van DK 1338 FA they were draiving crashed against a motor bike Honda Tiger DK 4142 BL on Saturday (November 8th) afternoon.

Unfortunately the couple residing at Putra Bali Hill D2/3, Taman Mumbul, Nusadua, had enough chance to escape. They left the car as soon as they saw flame appearing from their car hood. Unfortunately the motor bike rider was not as fortunate. I Wayan Oka Parwata (28 years old) got serous burn injuries in his body amounting to approximately 80% . The man residing at Banjar Luwus, Belah Village, Baturiti, Tabanan is now remain hospitalized.

The two vehicles was burnt out because of flame ignited in the incident. “At that time Oka Parwata is carrying thinner, flamable liquid which immediately fueled the flame,” said head of traffic incident unit of Badung police office Junior Inspector Ni Ketut Purnamawati in a press briefing on Sunday (November 9th).

Purnamawati explained that the car driven by the Dutch couple was speeding from the South. At the junction the Oka Parwata popped in with his motor bike from Denpasar-Singaraja route. Both vehicles lost their control leading to the accident. Parwata’s motor bike was dragged over under the car’s hood for a few meters. “Friction betweren the metal parts of the motor bike and the road surface ingited the fire,” said Purnamawati.

Once the car stopped, fire started to appear from beneath the hood. Parwata was trapped letting his body burnt on fire. The incident flocked traffic in the area. Two fire extinguishing cars from local fire brigade were employed to cease the fire.
