Indication of physical abuse to women and children lately is getting into quite a serious extent. Unfortunately most of them have not been reported as families consider it as a shameful issue. The Governor of Bali Made Mangku Pastika represented by his 3rd assistant Ir Dewa Nyoman Suarta said on Thursday (November 13th) at Wisma Sabha Utama conference room. “They tend to keep the problem to themselves. Abuse to women also shown similar tendency.”

Similar opinion was also expressed by head of department for protection of women and children Ni Putu Koesalireni, S.H., M.T. Data of report on abuse of women and children have been very rare to be reported as victims were feared to be considered as fighting against their parents. Therefore cross-programs coorinative meeting on domestic violence is considered very important, especially in elaboration of integrated program to handle and elminate conducts of violence to women and children.

The coordination meeting was presenting three presenters. RR Endang Widiarti, S.H. presented mechanism on service and handling of cases in inegrated service center on women empowerment (P2TP2) of Bali. Endang Widiarti explained that the mission of P2TP2 is to provide assistance to victims of women violation as well as conduct any effort possible to eliminate the such conduct. Acceptable are victims of domestic violence including physical, psychological, sexual, and economical abuse.

Luh Arjani from Center of Women Studies (PSW) of Udayana University presenting application of gender equality in handling dimestic abuse. Luh Arjani explained that occurence of domestic abuse is quite frequent. The main causing problem was gender equality both in family and community structure, insufficient protecting law, cultural doctrine of male domination, and poverty. Therefore continuous structured and comprehensive program as well as intersectoral, cross-program, and multi-discipline approaches are required.
