The prospect of hotel industry in East Java towards 2009 is very much depends on stability of global economy and and security of Indonesia, as growth of manufacturing sector is considered the leader of global economic growth in the countries which are the potential target of Indonesian tourism industry.

The opinion was thrown by the Chairman of East Java section of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association on Friday, November 14th 2008. He further explained that if many countries around the world is facing the global crisis leading to decreasing economic growth, purchasing power of people will be decreased. The situation is worsened by the fact that the countries severely affected by the crisis are the main marketing target of Indonesian tourism.

The immediate impact will be decreasing number of travelers coming to Indonesia both in leisure and business purposes, whilst there are many economical interests dependent to tourism industry in Indonesia including trade of gods and service involving foreigners visiting in various reasons, be they tourists, commercial traders, or professional experts. Therefore any policy affecting in increasing movement of those three components will bring positive impacts to every sides of tourism industry including airliner, tourist transport, accommodation, convention facilities, restaurants, handicrafts, and other tourism-related professions.

“With its dimensions and components tourism industry can become the prime-mover of regional, national, and global economy,” said Yulianto. The readiness of tourism industry in supplying tourism facilities and infrastructures is guided by information issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and World Tourism Organization (WTO), both of which advising optimistic estimation in their Tourism 2020 Vision. Among other predicted indicators are tourism is going to deliver 10.2% of worldwide gross income, employing 204 million of labors - which immeadiately 1 out of every 9 work-force in the world employed in tourism industry, and tax contribution of 655 billion US dollar.

Di antaranya tourism menghasilkan pendapatan 10,2% pendapatan kotor dunia. Menyerap 204 juta tenaga kerja di seluruh dunia, atau satu dari sembilan orang bekerja di sektor pariwisata. Potensi kontribusi pajak 655 miliar dolar.(
