Denpasar Eliminates Wild Dogs

Residents of Deanpasar are now in fear of spreading rabies virus and human infection through certain animals especially dogs. A number of residents who own pets are seeking for vaccination. Unfortunately the government of Denpasar city through veterinary office so far does not have the vaccine which so far only available at the provincial government. To anticipate potential threat of rabies, officers from the veterinary office of Denpasar eliminated wild dog especially in bordering areas between Denpasar and Badung Regency on Wednesday (December 3rd).
Head of the Veterinary Office of Denpasar Ir. I Dewa Made Ngurah when leading the elomonating operation in Pemogan admitted that the operation to eliminate wild dogs is intended to prevent the threat of rabies virus from spreading in Denpasar. Following the standard operating procedure, all animals (dogs, cats, and apes) within 10 kilometers area from a confirmed case have to be vaccinated. However as the vaccine is not available whilst to wait for vaccine to become available will increase he risk, elimination of wild animals is the only workable way to go. As the confirmed incident was located in the southern area of Badung regency, elimination focused into the southern border of the city, the nearest place to the location of confirmed incident.
Depopulation team from the veterinary office of Denpasar worked in Pemogan Village where a number of wild dogs were caught at Banjar Angkan. the dogs were paralyzed with poisonated food. After they got paralyzed, strichimin, a kind of deadly poison got injected to kill the animals.
During the operation a local resident Albert Nuradiyanto admitted that he has had bitten by a dog and very worried about rabies infection which has been widely reported by local news. He terefore went to the nearest clinic for examination. “I got very worried when I red the news about indentified rabies infection in Ungasan area in the South of Bali,” said Albert.
