Heavy rain in the last few days slides down a 10 meters high limestone cliff at Sumbersari village, Melaya for the second time in this year alone. However limestone exploitation remains ongoing. Located very close to Denpasar-Gilimanuk route, it was very fortunate that the road was not affected. A house located close by is also not affected.
Wife of Nengah Bagiarta, owner of the house located close to the sliding cliff said the latest incident is the worst she has ever seen. Large stones slid at night. Fortunately after the previous incident his family has prepared themselves by moving her barn away from the cliff. “Previously our barn was located very close to the cliff, adter the previous incident my husband moved it closer to our house,” she said.

Just before the slide a lound sound of crack was heard then the mango tree located at the edge of the clifftop fell down. Bagiarta’s family immediately get away from their house as thy worry that the slide will hit it. Large bunches of stones then slides with loud sound. Smaller stones at the size of human heads roll very close to the house, but fortunately do not reach it. About one are of land at the top of the cliff slides down.

Back in January 2008 two ares of clifftop land has also slid down in the location where limestone exploitation took place since 1963.
