Chinese market shows promising trend for Bali tourism in the future. This year number of Chinese tourists visiting Bali records the highest ever, a 68 percent increase from the same period of the previous year. Chairman of Bali Chapter of Indonesian Tour Guides Association (HPI Bali) Drs. Made Sukadana accompanied by Chairman of Mandarin Division Chandra Haim exposed the fact on Thursday (December 11th) on presentation of identity card for Mandarin tour guides at the office of HPI Bali.
Looking into continuous significant increase of Chinese tourist arrivals during the last few consecutive years, Sukadana believed that Chinese market is very promising. Back in 2006 China ranked 13th in number of tourist arrivals to Bali which jumped up to the 5th in 2008. “Bali has to take the best out of the opportunity to attract Chinese tourists,” he said.

So far about 30 millions of Chinese leave their country for holiday. “This is definitely a very good opportunity,: said the Head of Bali Tourism Office Drs. Gede Nurjaya, M.M. which also attended the event. Nurjaya believes that close historical connection between Bali and China has positive impact to Bali’s opportunity in attracting Chinese tourists.

Evidence of the such relationship can be found among other in close distance between religious temple of Balinese and Chinese residents. “Acculturation between Chinese and Balinese culture has lasted for very long,” Nurjaya added. Combination between close cultural relationship and the fact that Balinese culture has been well known worldwide will definitely create significant interest. In the near future, the governemnt is planning to open direct route from Shanghai to Bali.

However, regardless of significant potential it has, it is important to maintain the image of Bali as a well organized, safe, and comfortable place to visit, otherwise the potentials will be wasted away. Therefore tour guides are expected to conduct their function professionally and avoid any possible complains. “Quality is an important factor to make visiting tourists feel comfortable to stay longer and return later on,” said Nurjaya.
