Presence of regional leaders, especially governors, who came into power by endorsement of political party may sounds like a rare case, especially if they started as individual person entering the election without affiliation to any political parties. As they came into power, they would claim that it was a result of people choice, not political parties’ endorsement.

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika is a different case. He honestly admitted that his governorship is a result of strong endorsement by Indonesian Democratic Party in Struggle (PDI Perjuangan). “I became the Governor of Bali because of PDI Perjuangan. Therefore I want all people in Bali to vote for PDI Perjuangan”, he said. In a campaign for PDI Perjuanan at Kayubihi village,Bangli, he continuously motivate supporter of the party whilst exposing his programs for people’s welfare including free medical services which has been implemented throughout the island.

The honesty declared by Mangku Pastika in front of thousands of people has attracted a symphaty from the Chairman of the party’s national board of executives (DPP), Megawati Sukarno Putri. “Pak Mangku is a real gentlemen for expressing a honesty from deep inside his heart”, Megawati expressed her appreciation.

Megawati further reminded that were many individuals who reached their executive positions by endorsement of PDI Perjuangan claimed their success a result of people’s choice. But Mangku Pastika has shown his difference. With his honesty, supporters of PDI Perjuangan were encouraged to fully support his programs.

Pastika insisted that Bali which has been dominated by red color (the color of PDI Perjuangan) should never turn its color by changing dominating party. “I do believe in supporters of PDI Perjuangan. It is proven by the fact that you remains here regardless of heavy rain. It is an evidence that supporters of PDI Perjuangan do not come to attend the campaign for financial incentive, but because they love their political party”, Megawati continued.

Finally Megawati remind that the support has to last to the elections by voting for PDI Perjuangan candidates for legislator seats and to vote her for presidency. “I have never said that I lost in 2004 election. I just did not get enough vote. Have no doubt to vote me in the next presidential election, as I am the only female candidate from PDI Perjuangan”, she said.
