Death toll of poisonous alcoholic beverage increased by two on Saturday, May 30th, Alan Collin (59 years old) a British citizen residing at Banjar Tibubeneng of Canggu and Bernardus Darmawan residing at Canggu Permai housing complex.
Alan was taken to Sanglah hospital in critical condition. Breath assistance by paramedic team on duty has failed to safe his life. He passed away at 12.00 local time. His wife Sumarni informed that his husband had a habit of comsuming arak orange, balinese traditional alcoholic beverage. “He liked to drink arak orange, and he vomitted”, she said. She further told that his husband was having cough problem and complained that he was not feeling well in the last three days.
Whilst it was concluded that Alan has not consumed the beverage he bought, at about 05.00 local time Sumarni saw his husband vomitting, and there was blood in his vomit. “He also complained about problem of his sight. But even after he vomit, he refused to go to the doctor, until finally his condition worsening”, she said.
The holspital informed that clinically Alan was having methanol toxication. He passed away at about 12.00 local time, and his body was temporarily stored at the morgue of Sanglah hospital.
In addition to the two deaths, for were also hospitalized at Sanglah hospital for similar problem. Total victim of methanol toxification recorded by Sanglah has tolled up to 41, out of which 20 were dead.
