Bali Gets 16 Billions on Alcoholic Beverage Tax

Bali gets quite a significant income from tax on alcoholic beverage distribution implemented in distribution labeling for both domestic produced and imported goods. Distribution labels have varied value based on classification, Rp. 300, Rp. 700, and Rp. 1,000 per piece respectively. Being one of favorite tourist destination worldwide, Bali enjoys large quota of alcoholic beverage distribution. Back in 2008, Bali government earned 16 billion rupiah from distribution labeling of alcoholic beverages.
Head of domestic trade department at Bali office for industry and trade, Bagus Ketut Wijaya informed under Bali provincial regulation No. 9/2002 on supervision and control of alcoholic beverages, the product is categorized into 3 different class. Beverages with 1%-5% alcohol content are categorized into class A. Beverages with 5%-20% alcohol content are categorized into class B. Beverages with 20%-55% alcohol content are categorized into class C. The classification also applies to traditional alcoholic beverages such as brem, tuak, and arak which in addition to religious purpose are also consumed.
Bagus further exlpained that alcoholic beverage is regulated by three different regulations, Health, Food, and Customs. Under control of the office for industry and trade is distribution. Before distributed every piece of alcoholic beverage products have to carry a distributiol label. The label is issued by Bali office for industry and trade.
Every year the provincial government of Bali gets quota on volume for distribution label of alcoholic beverage. Back in 2008, Bali labelled 44.280 million pieces out of 44 million quota for class A, 2.6 million pieces of class B out of 3.5 million quota, and 1.531 million pieces of class C out of 1.5 million quota. Total income generated from alcoholic beverage distribution labeling for 2008 was 16 billion rupiah. For 2009 Bali gets increased quota of 50 millions, 3 millions, and 1.5 millions for class A, B, and C respectively.
