Gift for Veterans

Friendliness and family feeling spread around during the event of gift presentation for veterans of independence fight in Denpasar. Compassion and happiness were expressed by the wrinkled faces, including the Mayor of Denpsar, IB Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra who presented the gifts on August 18th at Legiun Veteran Building of Denpsar. Attended the event were also the government secretary of Denpasar, A.A. Rai Iswara, district heads, and other government officials.

Chairman of Denpasar Branch of Legiun Veteran Republik Indonesia, I Nyoman Sardja, in his speech said that thousands of independence veterans living in Denpasar has been continuously decreasing down to only 180, as they were rotten by age and passed away. However it will never decrease their will to always attend every opportunity to support the country, including in commemoration of the independence moment of August 17th.

“We will always support to ensure that the independence spirit remains in the heart of our young generation, for the glory of the Republic of Indonesia”, he said. With regard to the presented gift, he expressed his appreciation, especially to Mayor Rai Mantra, who has continuously paid attention to presence of veterans. He further propose the Mayor to help poor veterans by providing free house renovation.

Meanwhile Mayor Rai Mantra expressed his appreciation to the spirit of independence veterans. He hoped that their spirit can be an inspiring motivation for the young generation to continue the independence by development in every sectors. He further reminded that the gift by all means was not equal to sacrifices made by the veterans for the country. The city government of Denpasar will always do its best to pay a close attention, not just the gift, but also health, clothing, and other needs. He promised to take the proposal for house renovation into his attention.
