Bali Organic campaign immediately related to organic farming, agricultural production in organic cultivation methods. Therefore if all regencies in Bali are committed to supporting Bali Organic campaign, demand for organic fertilizer will significantly increase. At the moment local production of organic fertilizers in Bali is very low. Most of demand was covered by product shipped from other provinces.

The situation creates significant potential for entrepreneurs to initiate businesses producing organic fertilizers. It has to be started now so when Bali Organic campaign launched in 2010, supply will be adequately available. An agricultural observer form Warmadewa University, Nyoman Kaca said here in Denpasar yesterday.

Kaca further exposed that at the moment only the government of Denpasar City has shown commitment about organic products. Organic farming has also been started in Bangli, but here was not clear evidence of it was purely an initiative of the farmers or government promotion. Similar situation was also seen in Tabanan, Baturiti, and Bedugul.

“Actually we have started to see people implementing organic production, but still in limited scale. Mostly in the famous hillside area of Bedugul and Baturiti, but also Bangli. Denpasar is a different story as organic farming has been started a few years back with full support from the government. The government provide facilities to farmers intending to go organic. The support goes on to the smaller clusters. All districts of Denpasar promote organic cultivation through hydroponic and TNT methods”, he explained.

He also said that despite of very limited productive land available, Denpasar government is the most committed one to agriculture, very different from other territory which significantly more land.
Transformation of land from farming into residential and commercial area which reaches 50 hectares per year in Denpasar has resulted in continuously decreasing productive land. However, its will to improve farmers’ wealth has made the government of Denpasar strongly committed to agriculture.

Kaya further added that farmers with good entrepreneurship should have seen a significant opportunity in producing organic fertilizer, especially in areas where cow husbandry located, such as Bangli and a few other areas, as one of essential ingredients of organic fertilizer is husbandry waste, and cow is considered the best.

Bangli has the most cow husbandry, and therefore suitable for production of organic fertilizer. For this purpose, the government should start to promote the prospect of organic fartilizer production. As an incentive, the government can start to place an order for the fiscal year of 2010, to motivate people to get into the business”, he said.
