135 Teenagers and Oldsters Join Massive Potong Gigi

It can be said that massive Potong Gigi or Mepandes –Hindu-Balinese Ceremony signed for the remove negative elements in human soul or known as Sad Ripu- held on Sunday (27/9) was the first been held in Bali. At least the uniqueness of this massive ceremony was it participants who came from either poor family or orphans from orphanages around Bali.
The ceremony itself was held in the office of Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI) Bali at Ratna Street Denpasar. Begun from 08.00 Wita –Middle Indonesian Time- started with mepeed –walked in procession- from Campus of Hindu Dharma Denpasar Institute to the office of PHDI with 100 meter distance.
Then it continued with series of Medengen-Dengen Ngekeb, Mepandes and Pawidi- widanan. This ceremony was led by seven Sulinggih/Pandita –Hindu’s Priests-, one of them was Ida Pedanda Gede Ketut Sebali Tianyar Arimbawa.
The participant of this ceremony was 135 people who came from eight regencies in Bali and Denpasar. The youngest child who participated was 12 years old and the oldest one was 58 years.
This massive ceremony was held under the cooperation between one Bank in Denpasar and PHDI Bali. This Bank gave donation about seventy million Rupiah through CSR program (Corporate Social Responsibility Program)
Head of PHDI Bali, IGN Sudiana finely welcomed this event which was supported by that Bank. This Potong Gigi ceremony in Hindu has meaning to reduce people negative behavior.
Therefore this ceremony stand as an obligation conducts by every parent for their child especially for those who have already reach their adulthood before they get marriage. But in a certain condition it can be done after marriage.
