The celebration of Galungan Day in Tabanan Bali also colored by ngelawang-busk- tradition. Besides stand as an entertainment for the villagers on Galungan Day, this tradition also has function for asking God’s salvation and welfare from any epidemic and other negative elements.
Since daybreak hundred of Barong Ngelawang –busk by perform Barong Dance- have around, dance from one house to other house. The atmosphere became more joyous when banjar people –villagers- take turns ngupah –giving money- voluntarily to those dancers.
When dancing the barong ngelawang, the dancers who wear Barong doll mask usually flirting by the children. Those children are willingly flirting barong ngelawang to chase them. If they had been chased by that barong ngelawang, that was the most joyous thing for the children on Galungan Day.
Ngelawang tradition is art performance around village. ‘the way’ of this ngelawang performance is the same with singing beggar, there is people’s entertainment and gaining money.
One ngelawang group consist of ten to fifteen people whether children or adult, consist of barong dancer and gambelan musicians.
Ngelawang is usually done around banjar or village territory. In front of every people house, ngelawang dancer is usually stop by to dance their barong ngelawang.
The appearance of Barong Ngelawang tradition for people in Bali means bring about peace, drive away evil spirit or negative elements and expel diseases.
