Balinese People in Holland Celebrate Kuningan

Saniscara Kliwon Kuningan –Saturday- (October 24th) kidung –ancient song- that praise the mighty of God sang through out in a little town of Dutch, the land of windmill. That evening, at least 100 Balinese people in a small town of Dutch came to Alpena an den Rijin City. Even though the weather is unfriendly in that Van Oranje land starting with thick cloud, strong wind, hard rain and cold weather, but the people of Bali still have high spirit went to the praying location to celebrate Kuningan.

Praying ceremony of Banjar Suka Duka in Holland almost has nothing different with pujawali activity in villages of tourism destination object in Bali. Most of the foreigner wore traditional Balinese clothes and half of genuine Balinese people offered ayah –services- included the Teenagers of half breed from Balinese and Dutch marriage.

The care taker of Banjar Suka Duka Krama Bali –Joy and Sad Times Villagers United of Balinese People- in Holland, Ketut Purnawan said that the Galungan and Kuningan celebration in Holland was held every six months meant to be a yearning medicine toward Galungan atmosphere in their homeland and to introduce their culture to the Balinese children who born in Holland. People who attended the ceremony were intended used Balinese outfit in order to initiate the Balinese culture. “That what we want to plant to our children,” said this man who has seventeen years lived in Holland.

He was born in Bungaya village, Karangasem, besides introduced traditional outfit and the way Hindu’s in Bali praying, include within it is makidung warga sari –ancient song- he also intended that Balinese children who born in Holland wouldn’t forgot their ancestor tradition.

One of the Banjar Suka Duka founder in Holland, I G Arka added that banjar is developed in the end of 1995’s. this is the first people organization -banjar suka duka krama Bali-in Europe and for today has been built in Germany and Swiss.

Galungan and Kuningan celebration in Holland this time is began with Balinese dance like Panyembrama, Kebyar Duduk, and Topeng Tua, continued with praying together. The activity closed with diner together and band performance. Bali atmosphere became thicker when we looked closed to the food and offering stuffs and their dinner menu. For instance there is apem, kelepon, babi guling and lawar. It more high spirited when Balinese people started to magibung and magenjekan –sing Balinese song-
