Serangan Island, as Bali Tourism Asset

Cultural and Environment Observer, Wayan Geriya said that Serangan Island of Denpasar City needs a serious attention from the government since that island has big potential in tourism sector.

“If Bali government, especially for Denpasar, able to build that potential then I thing the economic sector of the people in Serangan Island will grow,” said Geriya in Denpasar on Tuesday (November 11th).

He said that Serangan Island with 885 families head or for about 3.848 people had transformed physically with land addition through reclamation. But that island survived as mentality icon full of maritime beauty. “Besides maritime beauty and spiritual grandeur, that island give harmony and memories, since it was for a long time this island known for its turtle’ conservation,” said Geriya who also an Udayana University anthropologist.

“That thing leads to an identity, that Serangan Island as potential area and full of hope as the reference for the government and environment conservation, historical and cultural value,” he said as been excerpted from Antara. Besides, said formerly UNUD Faculty of Letter’ Dean, between educational interest and cultural tourism interest is full of attraction and sustainable. “I was saw with 3 E concept, positive image will rise and able to influence today’s world about a mapping toward the presence of Serangan Island as an area that fused maritime, spirituality, and cultural creativity toward multicultural atmosphere,” he said. After 1990’s reclamation by PT BTID (Bali Turtle Island Development), Serangan Island extended from 110 hectare to 480 hectare.
