Bendesa Adat Serangan – Cultural Officer of Serangan Village – Made Mudana Wiguna state firmly that he cannot agree with Bali Governor suggestion to the Forestry Department related to the Governor’ request for 1000 turtles per year for religious ceremony.

That suggestion is valued inconsistent with an effort to conserve turtle and save it form extinct. Moreover Serangan Village itself is in a recovery effort to gain back their island image as Turtle Island. This is as what had been said by Made Mudana Wiguna in his statement on November 20th in Serangan.

Mudana state that this rejection is according to the Serangan peole commitment to conserve their turtle and erase Bali’s image as turtle Slaughter Island. “This has become our commitment to press illegal turtle trading and bring back Serangan image as the Turtle Island as in 1974” said Made Mudana Wiguna.

Mudana explained that their commitment to conserve and protect the turtle is through some rule of preservation in their awig-awig adat – Local Laws concern with local culture – Those, they wish, that there will be no term about Serangan people conducted turtle trading, since they will facing the adat – local sentence – in that island.

Mudana asserted that those 1000 turtle request based on religious ceremony intention is not comes from the people in Serangan, furthermore, the turtle that is requested was green turtle and wasn’t lekang turtle.

Whereas Serangan Island is not the habitat of the green turtle. “The turtle suits the condition in Serangan is Lekang Turtle, what was asked to provide is Green Turtle whether this is not their habitat.
