Digging for Bamboo Craft Artisans in Bali

Continuing the Awi-Awi Mandiri success last year, Saung Angklung Udjo as well as Mandiri back again with their Awi-Awi Mandiri 2009, the activity which consists of Bamboo Workshop, Bamboo Design Product contest, Exhibition and award night for Creative Work of Bamboo.

He saw the bamboo craft is a cultural work which has such a very high taste suits our ethnic varieties in this country, even most areas in Indonesia are already have their initial capital that is bamboo. In order to dig the bamboo craft potential itself that on Tuesday November 24th held a workshop at Undiksha campus in Singaraja.

“As we know, almost all of craft industries in this country are medium small industry which has potentiality to grow considering its large amount of number and area reached mostly the whole territory in Indonesia, as well as with labor absorption, as been expressed by the Operational Director of Saung Angklung Udjo, Satria Yanuar Akbar Angganasastra.

The development of bamboo craft industry is improved together with the cultural values and economic condition of this country where they share it special varied of nuances and has become main product which could support the economic growth.

“Its growth in these last three years quite encouraging especially for bamboo craft commodity make this program will be held continuously in order to initiate bamboo craft industry in this country,” said Satria Yanuar.

Series of Awi-Awi Mandiri 2009 activity began with workshop road show in five big cities in Indonesia; they were Bandung, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Singaraja which involved artisans, craftsmen, scholars and the entrepreneurs of bamboo industry.
