Danu Kertih Ceremony Followed by Thousand of People

Hard rain accompanying the procession of Danu Kertih ceremony in Lake and Mount Batur on Wednesday, December 16th. That rain is considered as a gift since the rain had been waited so long by Batur people. Not merely in Batur, the rain also felt on several places in Bali during that time which had going under dryness like in Buleleng and half of Karangasem area.
Danur Kertih ceremony was led by 11 sulinggih – Hindu’s priest – took place in three locations that were Penataran Pura Jati, Mount Batur peak, Batur Lake, Kintamani. Before tawur ceremony began there was series of beginning procession of Danu Kertih which centralized in Batur Kintamani that was pleaded for Bali’s salvation at Jati temple. The same thing also conducted in Pangubengan Besakih temple. Tirta – holy water for purification – from Jati Danu Batur temple and Pangubengan temple henceforth were unite with tirta at Watu Klotok temple Klungkung.
The rain began when pratima Ida Batari Ulun Danu tedun – trance ceremony – from pegayungan. Until this mapakelem procession conducted in the middle of Batur Lake, the rain did not stop felt onto Kintamani. But that condition couldn’t stop the will from thousand of people who gathered there since early in the morning to keep went and remains in Segara temple.
At that pakelem procession in Batur Lake, Bangli Regent, I Nengah Arnawa, Santria Naradha and the main director of Bank Sinar, IB Kade Perdana spread thousand of fish seeds into Batur Lake.
Jero Gede Batur Alitan explained, one day after the peak ceremony precisely on December 17th there will be nyepi segara. Means that every people’s activity such as fishing, boating and bathe are not allowed starting from 06.00 a.m. up to 06.00 p.m.
Besides conducting pakelem ceremony in Batur Lake, this kind of ceremony also held at the peak of Mount Batur. Hundred of people climbed the mountain early in the morning to follow that procession. There was also wewalungan as the medium for pakelem such as buffalo, chicken and duck.
