Thousands of Denpasar citizen flooded Catur Muka area to witnessing the opening ceremony of “Denpasar Festival.” Attended in that event were Vice Bali Governor, A.A. Puspayoga accompanied with Mayor of Denpasar, I.B. Rai D. Mantra, his deputy mayor, I G N Jayanegara, Regional Parliament Chairman, Regional Leadership Element, TP PKK of Denpasar city, Head of SKPD, the bendesa, artisans, humanists and other invitations on Monday (December 28th) yesterday.

Jro Bendesa of Pekraman Village in Denpasar, A.A. Oka Suweca, S.H. as the committee chairman in his report said that Denpasar Festival is considering as the highlight event form several activities conducted before such as pekenan lais meseluk, great sale, book fair, culinary, sight-seeing, orchids exhibition, Serangan Festival and more.

The events that is held starting from December 28th until December 31st, 2009 will adopt theme “Menyongsong Masa Depan Gemilang” – Commemorate Shining Future –

That theme is adopt as a symbol of attitude assertiveness and as an appeal stating Denpasar is an open-minded city but still being selective and adaptive toward modern age development and belief in every potential as well as cultural heritage which symbolized through art, culture and creativity as the values of basic capital for the better future.

Reported also in this Denpasar Festival activity today there will be varied of agenda among them are seminar, art and cultural entertainment, culinary, cooking contest, fusion, photo exhibition, Denpasar Florikultura Nasional Festival – National Decorated Plant Agriculture Festival of Denpasar – Denpasar Great Sale, Creative Community and lots. According to him, this activity is divided into six zones covering Zone A offering 60 stalls for handicraft exhibition, superior products including within it also is entertainment attraction.

Zone B presenting culinary festival with 80 stalls, Zone C is for Denpasar Handmade Textile Festival, Zone D is creative community stall offers communication space, public service and activity demo activities from government components and creative community. Meanwhile in Zone E there is Denpasar Florikultura Nasional where there are 40 stalls for varied of flowers and decorated plants exhibition from all around Indonesia and the last one is zone F with its art and culture.

Coinciding with that opening event, Mayor of Denpasar, I.B. Rai D. Mantra received pinning medal and cultural award revenue from the chief of Badan Kerjasama Kebudayaan Indonesia (BKKI) Daerah Istimewa Yogjakarta – Indonesia Cultural Cooperation Agency of Special Area of Yogjakarta – gave straightly by the head of that organization, Drs. Totok Sudarwoto. Totok said that this award is given due to the Mayor role and persistence in fostering, developing and conserving art, culture and local wisdom as well as tourism for the community welfare and for the glory of this nation, he said.
