Choose OSIS Chairman through E-Voting

Euphoria for e-voting technology application in choosing a leader seems infect the students in Jembrana also. As not want to lose with the head villages voting, hundreds of students at SMPN 1 Negara – Junior High School No. 1 – Intra School Students organization – also adopting the same voting system that nowadays become hot topic for the OSIS – chairman election in 2010-2011 period.

On Saturday (February 13) at 07.30 there are 817 students at SMPN 1 Negara had crowded the school field located at Jalan Ngurah Rai, Jembrana waiting for the OSIS chairman election used e-voting. Hundreds of students will choose one from six candidates who still at their VIII grade in order to replace Tri Utami Handayani who down from her OSIS chairwoman 2009-2010 period.

“I want to teach the student how democracy run through this OSIS chairperson election which is used e-voting technology,” said the Headmaster of SMPN 1 Negara, I Ketut Budiarsa in the middle of election preparation.

According to Budiarsa, his party intentionally adopted e-voting due to its accuracy and simplicity. “As long as I become the headmaster here, there had been four times OSIS chairperson election but only this time we do it with e-voting,” he said.

Precisely at 08.00 a.m., the election began. One by one, those students went to the verification location. After they passed the verification, those students will entering two voting booths where in each of them had been prepared one complet computer unit with card reader and one unit printer.

When Jembrana Smart School (JSS) place at the card reader, six candidates’ pictures will be displayed and ready to touch.

After one voter chooses his or her candidate, automatically the printer would print their candidate number. Those voters straightly inserted that printed number into the box.

“This merely stands as an anticipation, who knows there is candidate who did not feels satisfied with the election, we could counted it manually through the printed paper,” said I Putu Agus Swastika, M.Kom., the coordinator for IT coordinator of Jembrana Regency Government who get involved in that election.

After two hours election, Nanda Pebri Prasetia, candidate number 1 comes out as the winner with 395 votes. Thus, make this boy has the right to be an OSIS chairman for one year with Grace Vitaloka as his vice chairwoman who seated the second place with 159 votes.

“With this system we could know the result vastly. Looks like it only us in Indonesia that used e-voting in OSIS election,” said Erna one of VII student. Meanwhile, Tri Utami confessed that she could breathe lightly after her replacement had been confirmed.

“Now I could breathe lightly because only with two hours I could know who would replace me. If we used manual election, we should wait until late in the afternoon,” said Tri Utami.

Jembrana Regent, I Gede Winasa who had reviewed the election said that SMPN I Negara was in fact intentionally prepared to be one sample school for technology application in Jembrana, as well as with OSIS chairperson election with e voting. “With this system, we could teach the student democracy application could run smoothly and cheap,” he said.
