Head of Bali Fishery and Marine Agency, I Gusti Putu Nuriartha said that cultivation and fishing potential Bali has is very big but we only manage to establish 30 percent of them.
“We utilize only 30 percent of them and the remaining 70 percent hoped could be utilized in the near future,” said Nuriartha in Denpasar.

It is said that in Bali fishery and marine cultivation still have some superior potential able to spur production growth such as sea grass and nile tipalia.

“In 2014 it is targeted that Bali will be able to produce 150 thousand tons of fish. Therefore, this sector need to be driven from now,” he said.

Nuriartha optimist with the fulfillment of that target since the target of production is the whole fishery and marine commodity in Bali.

“Bali itself has lots of fishery and marine commodity, both fishing and cultivation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Director General Fishery Cultivation of Fishery and Marine Ministry, Made L. Nurdjana last week said that fishery production especially for Indonesia in the next 2014 is targeted around 16.7 million tons.

He said that Bali potential is big enough in term of fishery cultivation especially with the sea grass such as in Nusa Penida, Klungkung regency and at Bali North Shore that is at Buleleng Regency.

Besides sea grass, he said, they will focus also at freshwater fishes. Freshwater fishes cultivation such as silver catfish and ordinary catfish could develop in all regencies since both of the fish need no good water condition in a big amount.

“So with little of water, for instance at Busungbiu district of Buleleng Regency is quite good in developing ordinary catfish together with coffee cultivation,” said Nurdjana.
