Head of Denpasar Mayor Election Committee, Ni Ketut Wirati viewed that the attachment of Mayor/Vice Mayor campaign attributes before the campaign period could not categorize against the law.

“Even though the attachment of candidates campaign attributes done before the campaign period begins still we could not conducted it. The problem is with KPU regulation No. 69 2009 regarding campaign technical orientation in relation with the candidates’ billboard installation is not specifically mentioned if it violated the law,” said Ni Ketut Wirati in Denpasar.

Previously, member of central KPU (Komisi Pemilihan Umum) – General Election Commission – I Gusti Putu Artha when attended candidates numbered retrieval of Denpasar mayor and vice mayor pairs on last Thursday (March 4) stated that before the campaign period there is no attribute with campaign element in it.

“If we only saw it from the point of view of KPU section 52 2009, the regulation is correctly the same as what had been said by Mr. Putu Artha. But, there is also connection between one section with others too,” Wirati added.

Regarding that matter, she said that her party could not take action against every banners and billboards installation of those candidates.

“If it is stated that billboards installation is violating the law means that it has already in criminality field, still we viewed the law confusing.”

Wirati said that the sections in KPU No. 69 2009 overlap each other and its quite difficult.

Though, she said for control measure, her party had coordinate with KPU Denpasar officials. As far as held a meeting with related institutions discussing this campaign attributes issue.
“We will wait for the result of our joint discussions concerning campaign attributes since we do not want to take action without any clear reference. Wrong steps will befalls us punitive measure,” she said.
From observation at the scene, tens of banners from the two pairs of Denpasar Mayor and Vice Mayor candidates looks set at several strategic places in the city capitol of Bali.
Both incumbent candidate Dharma-Negara as well as their challenger Subawa-Udiyana had installing quite lots of banners although this time has not entered campaign period yet.
Meanwhile, head of campaign team of Subawa-Udiyana pair, Anak Agung Ngurah Wira Bima Wikrama said that banner installations were set up by the society.
“It’s quite difficult for us to put it down since those who installed the banners was public community itself,” Wira said.

Meanwhile, head of campaign team from Dharma-Negara pair, Anak Agung Kompyang Raka said that he would always obey KPU regulations. Means, if anytime they are ask to put down the campaign attribute, his party is more than ready to do that.

“We still wait for KPU instruction, whenever they ask to put it down, our team would do it,” said Kompyang Raka.
