Farmers Complaining Seaweeds Price

Marketing price for seaweeds gradually decline. This cause the seaweed farmer in Geger Beach area of South Kuta starts to get restless. It becoming more when they also had to face with falloff season.

Seaweeds farmer from Banjar Pande of Bualu Village, I Made Sutria, recently revealed that falloff season had been started since last January. It is due to the wave and seawater flow that affected seaweeds growth. It cause the farmer averagely went through harvest declining. “This falloff season makes our harvest yields decreased automatically as well as reduce our income,” he said.

According to Sutria, falloff season will continue up to the next August and October. He explained that after harvest, the seaweeds will be dried for two or three days. After it get dried then they sell it to the brokers.
Especially for the price, he mentioned, dried seaweeds in today season only Rp 10 thousands although usually it could reached Rp 16 thousands rupiah per kilogram. It was estimated that the price will get decline when the harvest yield unsatisfied. “We don’t know yet why the price get decline. But it seem due to the less than good harvest yields,” said Sutria.
