Bad weather strike Jembrana recently caused farmers in the area lost tens of millions Rupiah. The tornado destroyed hectares of fields belongs to Pohsanten people. Ricefield also collapse swept by the wind and rain as it happened to Subak Tamblang people and in Mendoyo Dauh Tukad.
Recent observation, almost all rice belongs to Subak Tamblang farmers collapse although it almost their harvest time. Klian Subak Tamblang – chairperson for Subak Tamblang – Gusti Kade Suastra said that from 45 hectare of their subak width, almost half of them collapse due to the wind strike. This condition cause rice prices went down from its normal price. The price down, he viewed it, is due to the harvesting cost which will becoming higher since the rice becoming collapse.
The farmers also confessed their hardness to find rice buyer, usually the people in turn come to the rice fields bargaining for the rice. Now discovering the collapse rice plant, none of those merchants comes. One of the rice field owners, Gusti Ardika, said that if the rice is left and no one come to bargain, his party feared of it would growth again.
“The grains had touched the soil, if there is rain for the next few weeks then the rice could growth once again,” he explained. Even it will be bought, the price shall went down drastically from its regular marketing price.
Member of Subak Mendoyo Dauh Tukad, Ketut Gunada said that in this kind of situation those felt the most lost is the farmer. If they are forced to harvest the rice alone, it cost them more expensive than usual. “Thus, make us had to sell it with far below the normal price for those merchants,” he said.
