2.500 People Leladan Pengabenan

Around 2.500 Mengwi people of Badung Regency and some from Tabanan Regency participated in “Leladan” procession. This is an ancient tradition to offer earth produce before Ida Tjokorda Istri Winten (95) dead body, the Mengwi King’s consort.

“Ancient tradition held on Sunday (June 20) is the second to be held since the same event also hold involved hundreds of people around Mengwi Castle,” says head of Public Relationship and Badung Secretariat Protocol I Gede Wijaya in Mangupura, on Monday.

He said that “Leladan” offering rice and coconut involves people in Mengwi as well as people from Kelaci, Marga and Pangkung Uling of Tabanan Regency.

Leladan procession get accompanied by gamelan bleganjur makes the atmosphere becoming live but solemn at the same time.

Anak Agung Gede Agung, Penglingsir Puri Mengwi who is also Badung Regent accompanied by Bendesa Adat Mengwi IB Anom expressing their gratitude toward the people who keep continuing that old “dresta” – tradition –

One by one the people put their offering in one place known as “Keben” as their devotion to the kingdom member, especially for the late Ida Tjokorda Istri Winten who died at the age of 95.

Keben with earth produces are in form of rice, coconut, eggs as well as canang and kwangen put in order before the coffin followed by praying together led by local priest.

Ancient “Dresta” in Mengwi hoped could be maintained and never extinct due to the globalization effect,” Gede Wijaya hoped.

The corps of Ida Tjokorda Istri Winten will go through ngaben at Setra – graveyard – Mengwi on July 2nd 2010. That Ngaben ceremony will be completed with “bade” or nine levels coffin’s container.

Varied preparation hold this big scale plebon is involving 40 villages in Mengwi.

Nowadays, the dead body was in shroud rest for temporarily at bale gede – funeral house – in Puri Mengwi which, attended every day by the local people in turns whilst preparing the huge scale ceremonial procession together.
