After got strike by global economic crisis in 2008, export value for Gianyar handicraft products begin to creeping up. The condition is readable. In 2008, Gianyar export reached 30.7 million US dollar, it decreased 9.40 percent from 2007 that was 33.9 million US Dollar.

After went through 9.40 percent reduction, Gianyar export value raised 9.17 percent in 2009 that is worth for 33.5 million US Dollar. Head of Gianyar Industrial and Trading Agency Ir. Wayan Suamba, MT admitted that export value decrease in 2008 was due to the global crisis which affecting handicraft industry in Gianyar. “But the condition gradually improved in accordance to the increasing of world economic condition especially in US as the main export target area,” he explained in an export workshop organized by Industrial and Trading Agency cooperate with National Export Developing Department for Ministry of Trading, and Gianyar Exporter Commodity Association at Royal Pitamaha Ubud on Wednesday (July 21) yesterday.

This condition would become better if art shop owner in Gianyar improve their export-import knowledge. “Gianyar as world displaying window for handicraft and has the longest art shop area in the world. Thus, export-import knowledge is a must for art shop owner,” said head of Production Division of National Export Development Department for Ministry of Trading, Hidayat Syah.

Hidayat viewed the name of the longest art shop area in the world for Gianyar is very reasonable. It is due to the west area of Gianyar, starting from Batubulan village up to the countryside in Tegallalang District, perched hundreds of art shops displaying numerous art and handicraft product. The art shops length is not less than 40 Km.

Suamba added that every effort conducted by Gianyar government to raise their export quality, fastening local authorization process, conducting export document process service both for Gianyar exporter or those who comes from outside of the area. Assist them with facilities and infrastructure through central government assistance. Make serious effort involving the craftsman in every exhibition events held. Both producers and exporters could always make effort and innovation in raising the product quality facing for competition.

The potential products are statue, jewelry, woven product, batik product, traditional and modern painting as well as spa. Gianyar Regent Cok Ace through his PLT Assistance II, I Gde Widarma Suharta said that Gianyar had been given the authority to propose Surat Keterangan Asal (SKA) for export – export certificate of origin – that formerly, usually issued by provincial government. This policy is important to make those exporter businesses getting easier.
