Stained “Car Free Day”

Denpasar government program, which maintain civic centre Renon area in Denpasar as an area of “car free day” on Sunday, receive positive appreciation from the people. City’s people enthusiasm to enjoy the atmosphere in the morning whilst having some exercise looks like centered in this location. Moreover, the Denpasar government established the area as a no vehicle area.

However, the government policy in ascertaining the area around Puputan Margarana Renon as a no traffic area still did not worked fully. It is proved by the latest violation happened on Sunday (August 8th) yesterday the track for “car free day” passed by many vehicles especially motor cycle. Some protest come, especially from bicycle lovers who love to have biking leisurely.

Bali Post observation yesterday not merely found two vehicles passed by the “car free day” area but there is also an orange police guard patrol’s car passed by complete with front lights and sirens on. The car was followed by some bikers who passed by the “car free day” track. “That patrol car should not entering this track since it has already free from any vehicles,” said Putu Arini, one of Denpasar citizen who yesterday enjoying mild exercise in Renon.

In relation with number of vehicles at the track of car free day, head of Denpasar Transportation Agency, I Gede Astika, S.H. when confirmed yesterday, confessed that they will evaluating the rate of vehicles entering the car free day’s track. “We will ask for an explanation from our officer. I just arrived after an office task outside of Denpasar, ” said Astika yesterday.

As been known before, the maintained tracks for car free day area covering Puputan Street, the street at front of Kejati Bali, at front of BPOM office and the whole street at the circle of Puputan Margarana Field. Every Sunday from morning up to 11.00 a.m. will be close for vehicles. It will make Denpasar people could rest assure when have exercise or merely walking in the morning without worried for the traffic. Still, observation at the entering gate of the car free day should be maximum so there will be no vehicle passed by this track.
