Tempest Broke Five Schools

The victim of tempest in Tabanan is increasing yesterday (26/1). The newest victims are five broken schools after they hit by trees and hard wind. The broken school incident is coming with the incident of injured people. The three hurt people brought to hospital. There is yet known the total loss of these incidents.

Five broken schools are Elementary School 2 (SDN 2) Batunya Baturiti, Junior High School 3 (SMPN 3) Penebel, Junior High School 1 (SMPN 1) Marga, Senior High School (SMAN) Marga and SDN 2 Senganan Penebel. The worst loss is suffered by SDN 2 Senganan. The school’ roof had broken after a branch of banyan tree hit it. Fortunately this natural disaster happened after all of students had going home so there was nobody injured. The branch of this large tree hit two classrooms and broke the roof. “This incident was happening after the students were coming home at 12.00 Wita,” said a local people who stayed nearby the school, Nyoman Gandra.

The broken classrooms were fifth and sixth class. Regarding to the lack of equipments, local people is letting the tree on the school roof. This condition is appearing in other school. The other school was also losing their roof due to the tempest such as one in SMPN 3 Penebel. Some classrooms were losing their roof due to the roofs made by zinc. Same incident is also hitting SDN 2 Batunya. The roof of this school is flew away. The students were soon allowing to back home faster. In the other side SMPN 1 Marga and SMAN Marga were broke after the water tower of the school was damaged by hard wind.

Unfortunately this accident was happening on school hours. The head of Education, Youngster and Sport Department Tabanan Wayan Adnyana explained his side is still recording the loss of the school. Mr Adnyana also noticed all of headmaster to report their school’s loss. Mr Adnyana was also inspecting the broken schools yesterday morning. Mr Adnyana also noticed the disaster prone school to close their school temporarily.

Further he noticed if the damaged school can be multiplied due to there are scattered schools in remote area such as Pupuan District and West Selemadeg. The review of broken schools will also reported to the Regency government and Disaster Handling Institution Regional (BPBD) to get some aids. Besides breaking schools, some puras were also broke by hard wind and tree. Broken tree also hurt three local people who brought to Tabanan Hospital.
“We are noticing local people to aware. If you are seeing the victims, you should report it and brought them to the hospital soon,” said Tabanan Regent Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti when she visited two died victims in Batunya Village and Antapan Village, Baturiti yesterday.
